Toggle

A toggle does two jobs. Thread a cord through and tie a knot, and you have a handle you can actually grab, which matters when your hands are cold, wet, or in gloves. Slip it through a loop of grosgrain or webbing instead and it works as a closure, the same principle as a duffle coat fastening. Quick to fasten one-handed, secure once it's through, with nothing to freeze or jam.

Moulded from acetal, it stays smooth in the cold and shrugs off years of use without cracking or corroding. Light enough to add a few without thinking about the weight penalty.
