Spacer mesh is the breathable 3D mesh that makes gear comfortable to wear. It's a thick, springy polyester knit with an open structure that holds two surfaces apart, so air moves freely and sweat can escape, which is exactly what you want against the body. At 3mm thick it adds a layer of cushioning on its own, and it's the go-to material for shoulder straps, hip belts, and back panels where padding and airflow both matter.
It sews easily, doesn't fray, and pairs well with foam for a padded-but-breathable sandwich on any pack or sling. Sold per quarter yard and shipped folded, so it's easy to add just enough to a build without buying a full cut.
